New Player Guide and FAQ
Hi there! Welcome to the forum for the RP Only room on 3DXChat we fondly call "The Hotel / The City" (We're working on the name). If you're here you probably found your way over from the sign at the front of the room and are thinking to yourself "K...wtf is all this?". Hopefully this guide will help explain what the room is, what we are trying to accomplish, and the many ways you can contribute and join in on the fun!
The room is something of a cross between a city simulator, a sex game, and dungeons and dragons. We try to appeal to people interested in all three of those aspects with varying degrees of success but everyone does their best! The city itself is a small community centered around a luxury hotel in a remote area of a major American city. There is an overarching plot which you may discover for yourself if it interests you, or you may simply explore the city. We ask that you follow the rules of the room and try to read around the site if possible to get a basic understanding of what we're about.

Now, onto frequently asked questions!

What's the deal with RP Only?
This room is a hub for roleplayers; people who are actively playing a character which may or may not closely resemble themselves. People are asking to be in character as much as possible while in the room and use either local chat, or a group channel accessible to everyone in a specific location. Describing your characters actions should be done with the /me command. If you are new to this sort of RP no worries! We're happy to teach as long as you're willing to learn. If you watch others for long enough it is fairly easy to learn. Any OOC remarks should be kept in PMs where possible and in ((parenthesis)) or denoted by //double slashes; these are the two styles people tend to use.
Do I need a character sheet with stats, like I see some people using, to enjoy the room?
No, but making one using the character generator above and the rules found in the rules section is a good way to fully integrate yourself into the environment. Without a character sheet you are free to roleplay however you like, but you cannot engage in combat without your stats recorded and if you engage in a test of skill against a player who has a skill for something then they will be considered the more skilled, because their number is recorded. You also cannot begin to advance and gain levels without a sheet.
Character Creation Rules
How do I know what I can be? What's allowed?
Very few ideas will be turned down outright. We have things like a police officer, a pixie, a drug dealer, strippers, hotel and business operators, and a few wizards (note that magic has special rules and you cannot begin play with it unless first approved by an admin). Most players are human, but that is not a hard and fast rule.
So do I need to keep track of money to just hang out and book a room or buy a beer?
At the present time money for most non-combat related things is done on an RP only basis --in other words if someone asks you for $5 you can simply say: "Here, I have $5"
A money system is in place on the website for use with combat and story related items. This issue is currently pretty complex and the best advice I can give you is don't worry about money unless someone tells you that you need to.
What if I just want to come in and run around having sex?
Well, it's your character, you can do that. Several people use the hotel as a location for sex RP. HOWEVER, remember that not everyone is here for that. This is a "semi" realistic functioning city for most people. No one should be assumed to be open to sexual RP just from their occupation or position and you should treat people like you would in life. Do NOT assume a maid at the hotel, a stripper, a porn star, or even a prostitute is going to have sex with you just because you give them the old "I stare at you with my hungry eyes. My dick is getting hard." routine.
How come no one is ever at the front desk/bar/on stage/at the restaurant/etc?
Certain businesses, but not all, are operated by players who try to make the city more vibrant by taking time out of their RP to work as an owner or operator. Please respect they will not always be on, might be busy and might not always be in the mood to come running if you stand there hammering on the front desk bell. The staff of the hotel are kind and respectful and if they need a break they need a break. Try and remember they're people to.
How do I gain levels once I have stats?
Levels can be awarded by admins during story events or by other players. Players can act as a "trainer" to any person two levels lower than them and award that person 1 level. A person can gain a maximum of one level per day. The intent with this system is to allow players to help regulate each other's growth without everyone skyrocketing to the current max level of 15. Common ways this occurs is if a player's character literally trains another. Or if a player notices that another has been a very active role player or participated in some small scenario run by the higher level player. For example: A level 3 Boxer trains a level 1 Newbie in martial arts. The Boxer tells the Newbie they may take a level (and should probably spend a point in martial arts). Now the Boxer is 3 and the Newbie is 2 --The Boxer can't train the newbie anymore at this level difference.
If someone has trained you make sure you come and update your stats and select them as your trainer above. Ask someone if this is confusing.
Events you say? And what about this story?
The story, without giving too much away, has supernatural and horror elements and is a totally optional part of the City, but one where the admin's efforts are focused. Many of the long term players are participants in it and events are run about once a week. The admins are looking at ways to be more inclusive, but don't be afraid to ask around. The common lore section is a good point of entry if you'd like to say: start asking about strange noises around town, chances are you will bump into someone who can induct you into the plot line.
It seems like everyone is all off doing their own thing and I'm not sure where to go, I'm also pretty shy.
I promise like %90 of people in the server, especially the ones with levels and a character sheet, will be delighted to help, and if you need to send an OOC PM to someone and ask something like "Hi, I'm new, is there someone who could RP with me or tell me where to go?" That's totally fine. Be aware sometimes people will be afk for long periods of time if they are lying in a bed or sitting in a closed location.
The city has no doors! I can go anywhere!!!!
Not quite. 3DX has no support for doors. Use common sense here. Doorways will typically have a kind of dark texture or bars over them. Anything obscuring a doorway in this manner represents a door. Many doors will be locked and the key to open them will be noted beside the door. An important exception is hotel rooms, which are ALL locked as they would be in a real hotel.
How do players find jobs and why do some people get to have a business?
Everyone working somewhere or running something is doing so as part of their RP and have typically worked their way into that position (the hotel and club have both had multiple owners for example). If you are interested in having your character work at a location, see if you can identify if that property already has an owner/manager. You can ask around in character or double check by asking on the forums. If there is someone running the place go see if they're hiring. Suzie will sometimes add an entirely new building in as well if a player has a really good idea for one.

Is there a discord server for this RP?
Why yes! Thank you for asking such an oddly specific question! Although all RP should take place within the confines of 3DX we do have a server to chat, message, plot, and roll dice!
